PROJECT 88 Build, 017. Simply our finest build to date.

Series Land Rover SWB 88” In Deep Bronze Green. The basis for build 017 was a meticulously restored 1958 Series 2. This is a brand new build only completing running in miles since. There is the option of final configuration of seats and audio etc.

ABOUT THE MODEL:

This is a first year of production model, sought after and rare. Many of the components were carried over from a series 1 vehicle making the most collectible series 2/2a model available.

THE RESTORATION:

The was restored back to factory correct standard and the attention to detail is sublime. This attention to detail allows the next owner to maintain the Project 88 look or revert back to original if so desired.

Key highlights to the restoration include:

This car still has the original chassis. It was dipped, repaired and powder-coated meaning this vehicle is still eligible to be exported.

New Single skin bulkhead custom fabricated. Fabricated to the same specification as original but single not dual skin prevents erosion and removes ‘Achilles heel’ of Series Bulkheads.

Bulkhead was coated with zinc prior to painting to ensure longevity.

New panels across the floor and body, replaced using the highest quality parts possible (this is true for the whole build)

The body was fully dry built replacing all galvanized cappings ensuring the best possible fit and shut gaps throughout. You will notice how well all panels line up and how straight the sides of the vehicle is.

Professionally painted in the correct Deep Bronze green coach enamel. Other items had been painted in gloss black.

Wiring loom was replaced with a supplied loom from Autosparks.

Axles had been fully stripped and refurbished renewing all bearings and brake components.

Steering relay was renewed along with all steering joints and the steering box/column was also overhauled and painted.

Gear/transfer box was also stripped and overhauled.

The Engine has been fully stripped, rebuilt and set up perfectly. It starts, runner and drives as good or better than any you will see.

Each nut and bolt has been replaced, polished or zinc plated

Exhaust: Replaced with a new exhaust.

All the suspension has been replaced. New leaf springs, shock absorbers, and bushes all-round the car

The car sits on Project 88 tyres, but the factory correct Michelins are also available for it, to return the car back to standard.

WHAT IS THE RESULT OF THIS METICULOUS REBUILD?

We’re super proud of build 17 because we feel it represents the ultimate cosmetic finish and mechanical restoration ensuring you have the best of both!! An über cool looking rig, that drives as good as any Series 2 will ever drive. It starts on the button, runs sweetly, doesn’t smoke and will sit at a happy 60 quietly. It changes gear beautifully, the steering is directly with very little to no play, the brakes work and it stops on the button, the suspension doesn’t bounce you all over the road, and our attention to detail when building this car means it doesn’t rattle and shake.

STYLE THIS SERIES

Build 017 offers its new custodian the ability to run around with “The Look” but retains the option of easily returning to a stock/period finish if so desired.
